Thomas – however, this was an alias -- his true name was Robert Gordon Cartwright. He was imprisoned (Wakefield) in 1912 for stealing a bicycle. He served in France with the 25th and then the 19th battalion. Medal rolls indicate that he forfeited his medals for a self-inflicted wound on 26-3-17, but these were later restored. Rolls show died of wounds, but CWGC shows died of sickness on 14-1-18. He was born in Scarborough and enlisted in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
