He is also entitled to Cape Colony and South Africa 1901 bars. He died of enteric fever (typhoid) at 14 General Hospital, Newcastle, Natal aged 34 years. He is also commemorated on the 2nd Battalion the (Duke of Cambridge's Own) Middlesex Regiment Boer War memorial in St Paul's Cathedral, St Paul's Churchyard, London.
