She was born in Marden, Kent in 1880. She was part of the crew of SS Namur in 1915. Namur was a 6,701grt, defensively-armed vessel, which was torpedoed without warning and sunk by submarine on 29th October 1917, not far from Gibraltar; one life was lost. It is not known if she was still on the ship at that time. Nellie Griffiths was living in Stanford-le-Hope when her medals were issued.
