Albert Wiliam Arthur. He was born in 1894 in Stroud, Gloucestershire and joined the Royal Navy in 1913 as Armourer’s Crew. He served on “Queen Elizabeth” throughout World War 1 (entitled to 1914-15 star trio) and was present during her deployment to the Dardanelles where she took part in the bombardments of the Ottoman fortifications. He progressed through the Armourer ratings and was an Ordnance Artificer 2nd class by the time he received his LS&GC in 1928 whilst serving on HMS Egmont (Malta). He was advanced to OA 1st class, granted a hurt certificate in 1931 and pensioned in 1935.
