Frank. He was born in 1885 in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), son of John Richard Povah who retired as a Lt-Colonel in 1898. He initially joined the Isle of Wight Royal Garrison Artillery (Militia) in 1902 but transferred to the Suffolk RGA in 1903 and then to the Royal Scots (which was the regiment his father had served in). He served in France from 22-10-14 with the 2nd battalion. He was promoted to Captain in early 1915 and was killed in action on 16th June 1915 in the Battle of Bellewaerde Ridge, being mentioned in the battalion’s war diary: “Capt. F. Povah played a prominent part in the attack, causing great havoc among the German supports. He was killed during the battle”. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
