William; attested 1923; awarded Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1937; he was killed in action 27th August 1943 when serving on HMS Egret. This ship was hit by a Henschel Hs 293 guided bomb launched from a Dornier Do 217 aircraft and was the first ship to be sunk by this means.
